Thank you to all our friends who called and emailed, asking about Hurricane Melissa’s impact on Haiti and wanting to know how to help. Four days of heavy rain and winds created a lot of problems – flooding led to mudslides, uprooting of trees, destruction of crops, and substantial damage to houses.
HHF has been busy working with community leaders to move people out of dangerous areas, onto higher ground and into shelters. We’ve been distributing food and sanitation supplies, in an effort to prevent a cholera outbreak in the area.
Many communities are completely cut off, as roads were washed out. Now, as the weather starts to dry a bit, we are working with the local community to help clean up the area.
As we work to bring recovery to the Grand’Anse area of Haiti, we send our warmest wishes to the people of Jamaica, Cuba, and all the other islands so severely impacted by this devastating Category 5 Hurricane.
Thank you again for your support.
