– Zika Outbreak and HHF

indexZika Outbreak Means HHF is stepping up its community health strategies.

The World Health Organization has labeled Zika a “public health emergency of international concern.” In fact, a top US health official recently expressed ” extreme concern” Friday over the potential for Zika to expand throughout Haiti. HHF is working closely with the Jérémie Ministry of Health as the widespread transmission of Zika requires a coordinated response from such government institutions, health care organizations, and the local communities.

HHF has prioritized funding to address this epidemic, mobilizing and increasing our health education at the community level, increasing the capacity of the clinic and Center of Hope to meet the demand for health services, and addressing the concerns of pregnant women as they learn the possible neurological ramifications from transmission of the virus to their babies, including microcephaly.
